Your style takes time.

I never wanted this to be true! I just wanted it to be there. I didn't want to spend time finding it. What I didn't understand is that my style came with confidence, and confidence came with lots of painting and lots of mistakes. Along with the consistent practice I had to strengthen my visual vocabulary which meant choosing the things I liked about my painting not what others liked. I had to put my voice ahead of others regarding my painting practice. stand up for what is right for me in my painting, not what I know other people like. I found that too risky early on. I wish someone had told me that it is in the doing consistently and having the courage to keep going when things don't go as planned.
